Immortal Path Preview 3
25 April, 2010
  • In part 3 of our immortal paths preview series, we take a look at some of the more traditional methods of immortality. Rising to the heavens, or descending into the underworld!

    Celestial
Some beings find a way to devote themselves to a higher calling, that of the heavens, or occasionally of an ideal greater than themselves and the affairs of mortals.  The Celestial is the embodiment of such a goal, with those following this path typically sprouting wings, developing eyes that glow like golden orbs, and finally causing their physical form to develop into an image of perfection.

Celestials powers grant them a very large bonus to their AR and DR rating, growing ever more powerful as they increase in raw power.  After a battle, they often will find their wounds miraculously heal, further bolstering their might further (until they take a rest in the tavern), and sometimes even gaining free XP because of this! Finally, Celestials are also able to gain an AR and DR bonus higher than the usual cap of 15%, due to their awesome abilities.  Characters with amazing equipment will find themselves even more powerful than ever.

    Abyssal
For some, the only option for immortality is one of bargain and trickery.  Becoming an Abyssal involves making a pact with the lower planes in exchange for eternal life.  Most demons and their ilk will happily make such an agreement and then flaunt it with the would-be immortal, but as a powerful individual, you have learned how to make the deal properly and ensure that the demons keep their part of the deal, at least for now.

The Abyssal is able to conjure Imps and other beings of the lower planes to assist them in battle, adding to their success chance (although the little bastards occasionally try and steal gold after a fight, so watch out!).  In addition, they have the ability to blast enemies with Abyssal power, not only causing massive wounds but also healing the immortal at the same time for larger and larger amounts.

    Still to come...
Next preview, the immortal paths of the Mountain Kingdom, and another brief Q&A session.  Post your questions in the forums and we'll do our best to answer the most pressing concerns.
